For me retirement means no longer having to report to the 9-5 grind. I want to be free to volunteer and do charity/mission work. I plan to save up enough in a retirement fund within ten years so that I won't have to make contributions and it will simply compound until "official" retirement age. After I save up enough retirement income I can retire from the rat race and work for myself. I only need to make enough to cover my living expenses.
We don't need more stuff. I believe reducing costs is the key to early retirement. If I can learn to avoid the disease of materialism I can instead invest that money and channel in into passive income.
